Accessibility
Prepare for your visit
We aim to make Fenix accessible to everyone. We do this in collaboration with Toegankelijk Museum.
Arrival and access
Fenix does not have its own parking facilities. Nearby car parks are available within a 6 to 12-minute walk. Read more on nearby parking.
The nearest parking for visitors with a disability is located approximately 200 metres from the entrance, at Veerlaan 11, in front of Kantine Walhalla. There is one designated disabled parking space here. In addition, there is a disabled parking space on Sumatralaan, near Kopi Soesoe.
If you have limited mobility, you can stop your car at the Veerlaan side of the building to drop off or pick up passengers. You or your party can then park the car on the street or in one of the nearby car parks mentioned above.
Fenix is easily accessible by public transport (Wilhelminaplein stop, 11-minute walk) and by water taxi. Plan your route to Fenix via Google Maps.
The museum entrances are located on the street and quay sides, directly under the Tornado. On the east side of the building, you will find the entrances to Plein.
Fenix entrance area
In the centre of the entrance area, you find the staircase of the Tornado. Seen from the quay, the lift is located to the right of the staircase, directly next to the museum shop. Your entrance ticket is scanned at the staircase, the lift, or at the entrance to the exhibition spaces on the ground floor.
Around the Tornado staircase, you will find, from left to right: the museum café, the entrance to the Suitcase Labyrinth, the cloakroom, the toilets, the entrance to the exhibition Family of Migrants, the welcome desk, and the museum shop.
You can reach the first floor and the viewing platform of the Tornado via the staircase or lift. On the first floor, upon arrival, you will find an exhibition space in front of you and one behind you. The espresso bar is on your right.
Mobility aids and passages
The entire building can be visited using a wheelchair, walker, or foldable mobility scooter.
The main entrance doors of the museum are 1 metre wide. The doors at Plein are 1.10 metres wide. The lift has an entrance width of 1.20 metres and is 2 metres deep. On the ground floor, there is an accessible toilet with a door width of 90 cm.
Wheelchairs and two walkers are available to borrow at the museum’s welcome desk. A limited number of wheelchairs are available. These are provided on a first-come, first-served basis upon arrival and cannot be reserved in advance.
Toilets and changing facilities
The museum toilets are located both in the entrance area and on the ground floor of Plein. Both toilet areas include an accessible toilet with a baby changing facility.
Companions and assistance animals
Tickets for the museum can be booked online. Visitors who are unable to visit the museum independently can book a free companion ticket.
Registered assistance dogs are welcome. Pets are not allowed.
Blind and visually impaired visitors
In the exhibition Suitcase Labyrinth, listening devices are available. These allow you to listen to the personal stories behind the suitcases.
At present, Fenix does not offer any other audio tours.
Deaf and hard-of-hearing visitors
The exhibition The Suitcase Labyrinth consists of personal stories that you listen to using audio equipment. At the distribution desk in the gallery, these stories are also available in written form. This makes the stories accessible to visitors with a hearing impairment.
