Het Grote Maanfeest Buurtdiner
On Sunday 5 October, Fenix, together with YAP (Young Asian Platform), Het Zesde Geluk, Stichting SOL, Stichting ROS and House of Hope, is hosting the Grand Moon Festival Neighbourhood Dinner. Tickets are only available at the Kiosk on Plein in Fenix.
Sharing a Meal at Fenix
Enjoy a vegetarian, three-course Chinese menu with your neighbours from Katendrecht and beyond, along with an inspiring programme. Spoken word artist Jowi Len Kemper shares her story as a Third Culture Kid and a woman with Southeast Asian roots. Sandra Pham blends poetry and music in an intimate performance about her life as a young woman in the big city. And of course, the evening wouldn’t be complete without the traditional mooncake.
Programme
4.30–5.00 pm | Doors open
5.00–5.15 pm | Introduction
5.15–7.00 pm | Dinner & performances

Tickets
Het Grote Maanfeest Buurtdiner is open to everyone. We use a pay-it-forward principle: besides a regular ticket (€10), you can also buy a ticket that not only covers your own meal but also someone else’s (€20). Our partners Stichting SOL, Stichting ROS and House of Hope will make sure these tickets reach those who need them most.
The dinner is especially intended for residents of Katendrecht and the surrounding neighbourhoods. Tickets are therefore only available at the Kiosk on Plein in Fenix (Dolf Henkesplein 1).
Moon Festival
The Moon Festival, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival and originally from China, is celebrated in several East Asian countries. It was originally a harvest festival held during the full moon. With the hard work of the harvest season behind them, people could finally gather, celebrate and enjoy. And of course, mooncakes are an essential part of the tradition: round pastries often filled with something sweet.
About the partners
Het Grote Maanfeest Buurtdiner is organised together with several partners:
Het Zesde Geluk – founded by Jinai Looi – provides cooking workshops and catering inspired by the traditional Chinese concept of the five forms of happiness: prosperity, health, longevity, joy and wealth.
YAP (Young Asian Platform) is a Rotterdam-based community created for and by young people with an Asian background. Together they organise events and share their culture with others in accessible ways.
Stichting SOL (Samen Ondernemend Leren) works to make learning accessible to everyone, in collaboration with local residents.
Stichting ROS supports people without residence permits in the Rotterdam region – socially, legally and medically.
House of Hope supports residents in Rotterdam South who are struggling with poverty or loneliness.
