Turkish Dinner - On Her Shoulders
Join us for a dinner prepared by Aysel Kaya and Elvan Ünlü, two Rotterdam-based creators with Turkish roots, who combine their love for food, photography, and storytelling.
What to expect
During the dinner, you'll get a preview of the Tirit & Babuko project, in which Aysel and Elvan capture the culinary traditions and personal memories of Turkish and Moroccan women from Rotterdam.
The Menu
The dinner includes lentil soup, arugula salad, and a selection of mezze, including tzatziki and Turkish bread. A dish with chickpeas and tomato sauce will also be served, along with stuffed red bell peppers with vegetables, herbs, and rice. For dessert, you can choose between baklava or revani. Traditionally, it will be served with Turkish tea and water. Vegetarian and vegan options are available.
Practical Information
The event will be in Dutch. After the dinner, the premiere of On Her Shoulders will follow. Please note: the premiere is free, but you’ll need to register separately via another ticket link.
About Tirit & Babuko
Tirit & Babuko is a project by Elvan Ünlü (culinary photographer) and Aysel Kaya (project manager and cultural all-rounder). They collect stories, photos, recipes, and memories from Rotterdam residents with Turkish roots to preserve and share the city's culinary heritage. This project will be released in various forms, including an exhibition, a podcast, a documentary, and a storybook.

On her shoulders is a documentary about the hidden stories of Turkish and Moroccan women in Rotterdam.
