Make Your Own Pickle
Turn vegetables, herbs and brine into fermented vegetables
During this family workshop, you’ll work with artist Jip van der Hek to make your own pickle. Take your fermentation jar home and discover how the flavours change over the following days.
Flavours travel too
In the exhibition Mouthfool, artist collective Slavs and Tatars shows that language pays no attention to borders. Flavours and recipes travel with people too, changing along the way.
Fermentation takes time. What you put into a jar of brine today will taste different a few days later. Together with artist Jip van der Hek, you choose vegetables and herbs for your own pickle. Then take it home and let time do the rest.
Practical information
The workshop is for children aged 6 and over and is designed for the whole family. Participation costs €5 per person. Parents and carers taking part should also book a ticket.

Discover Slavs and Tatars: Mouthfool
Language pays no attention to borders. It travels with people, changes along the way and leaves traces wherever it goes. In the exhibition Mouthfool, artist collective Slavs and Tatars uses humour, wordplay and absurd imagery to show how language migrates: from mouth to mouth, from generation to generation.
After the workshop, continue into Mouthfool with the family trail. Simply add an exhibition ticket when booking. Children and Rotterdam Pass holders can visit Fenix for free.
