Free Heri Heri For All
Each year on 1 July, we celebrate Keti Koti: the abolition of slavery. Join us at Plein for a free heri heri meal and music by DJ Rochand. Eat together, reflect together, celebrate freedom together.
Heri heri
Cassava, sweet potato, plantain, salted fish and egg form this traditional Afro-Surinamese dish. Born from the resilience and creativity of enslaved people, every bite carries their story of survival and legacy. A dish that continues to connect and inspire to this day.
On 1 July, Soul Food Lovers takes over the Plein Kitchen to prepare all free heri heri meals.

Free Heri Heri For All is a nationwide initiative by KIP Republic and collaborating partners. On 1 July, the day of Keti Koti, free heri heri meals are shared as a way to commemorate, acknowledge, and connect. The project invites people to collectively reflect on our shared history and build greater awareness together.
