Crossing Tables
#4 Foraging the City – a storytelling dinner about foraging as remembering and connecting
An artist, chef or collective brings together flavours and migration stories in a sensory experience. Every third Thursday of the month at Plein.
The event will be in English. Drinks are not included, but available at the bar.
Foraging as remembering and connecting
This dinner isn’t just about picking wild plants, it sees foraging as something bigger: a way to understand how people, plants, and knowledge travel together. It's about building connections, with each other and with the city around us.
In this three-course dinner you will engage all your senses as you explore: How does your neighborhood actually taste? How do the stories of others who've lived here change the way you experience your surroundings?
About the partners
This dinner is created by a unique partnership between Clara, Parel Strik, Snackbar Frieda, the Seagulls and Jonas Bleijerveld. Together, they explore how land, body, and story interconnect through food
Clara (she/they) is a city forager, always pointing out and handing you edible plants. She works as a caretaker in food forest ‘De Overtuin’ in Trompenburg Tuinen & Arboretum, where she observes how visitors connect with the garden and adds small foraged snacks to enhance these experiences.
Parel Strik (she/her) is an artist based in Charlois. Through dinners and gatherings in public spaces, she explores how sharing food creates moments of connection and care, creating space for stories to be shared.
Jonas Bleijerveld (he/they) is a socially engaged artist, and nearly all of his work revolves around food, whether as material, theme, or a way to create connections.
Frieda and the Seagulls: Frieda is a squatted snackbar collective in Rotterdam’s Oude-Westen. Their space serves as a social hub and event space for local collectives. “The Seagulls” is one of these collectives, using the space to cook community dinners with food waste from the market and wholesalers.
