Aan tafel met de buren: Special Edition with Films and Dinner
An afternoon programme with films about migration, detention and living far from home.
During this special edition of Aan Tafel met de Buren, Dreamers and A World Not Ours are screened: two films about people who leave their homes, become caught in systems, or live for generations with the consequences of migration. Afterwards, the programme continues with a shared dinner in collaboration with Stichting Mano.
Programme
Dreamers (2025), Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor
1.00 p.m. to 2.30 p.m.
In Dreamers, we follow Isio, a Nigerian migrant in a detention centre in the United Kingdom. As her freedom comes under threat, she finds strength in her bond with another woman. Together, they begin to imagine a future beyond the fences. The film is the feature debut of Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor, an award-winning filmmaker, writer and producer whose work often centres voices that are heard less often.
A World Not Ours (2012), Mahdi Fleifel
4.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.
A World Not Ours shows three generations in the Ein el-Helweh camp in southern Lebanon. With family films, archive footage and recordings spanning more than twenty years, the film becomes a way of holding on to friendship, family and memory. Director Mahdi Fleifel himself partly grew up in Ein el-Helweh, so his own history runs through the film too.
Diner door stichting Mano
5:30 to 7.00 uur p.m.
After the films, you sit down for a meal in collaboration with Stichting Mano. For the shared dinner, you can buy a €5 ticket at the Kiosk on Plein. Card payment only.

About Stichting Mano
Stichting Mano works with Fenix for Aan tafel met de buren. The foundation encourages people in Rotterdam to take part in society. They give people space to discover and use their talents. Their programmes focus on children, young people, newcomers, people who have fled, and others for whom the road can sometimes be more difficult.
World Refugee Day at Fenix
From 16 to 20 June, Fenix marks World Refugee Day with films, dinners, conversations and art. It is a week to reflect on what it means to flee, to live far from home, and to begin again. The week ends with the Night of the Refugee: a walking event by Stichting Vluchteling, in which participants walk to support emergency aid worldwide.
