Dislocated Origins (2022-2024) is a large-scale panel artwork by Hugo McCloud. The artwork is especially created for Fenix, and captures a fragment of the story of movement and migration—a fragment filled with layers, both literal and metaphorical.

Dislocated Origins is made from different layers of single-use plastic bags that are fused with the canvas. The material emphasizes how refugees are often treated just as carelessly as the plastic bags we use to do our shopping.

Everyone has a different drive, and we all have destinations. So we move.

— Hugo McCloud

In this video, Hugo McCloud explains how Dislocated Origins captures the experiences of people migrating between continents. Dozens of people on the move, each with their own drive, each with their own destination.
