In-between: Ten Women Artists on Migration

The route In-between takes you past the artworks of ten women artists who explore the in-between space of migration. It could be a conversation that shifts your perspective, a small incident that redirects a life unexpectedly, or a culture carried to a new place, where it takes on fresh meaning.

The artists reveal that migration doesn’t end upon arrival. The process continues to live in memories, in the body, in everyday routines, and in the way these artists envision the future.

Family route: a quest for artworks

Children explore the All Directions exhibition in a playful and imaginative way using a set of cards while walking through the museum with family, friends, or caregivers. The illustrated artworks, such as The Bus by Red Grooms, Space Refugee by Omar Imam, and Hana El-Sagini’s giant blue slippers, invite children to set off on a quest (suitable for ages 4+).

For older children (7+), the back of the cards features challenges and questions that spark imagination and empathy. The card sets were developed in collaboration with Het Imaginarium and illustrator Rachel Sender.

Family route: in search of feelings

In the photo exhibition The Family of Migrants, you see people from all over the world. The photos tell stories of farewell, sorrow, love, family, and hope. Children aged 7 and up can explore the exhibition using cards that express emotions such as excitement, courage, or longing. Holding a card, they search for a photo that reminds them of that feeling.

On the back of the cards are questions that children can answer together, such as “What is the most exciting thing you have ever done or experienced?” or “What do you think: is saying goodbye difficult?” The card sets were developed in collaboration with Het Imaginarium and illustrator Rachel Sender.

Audio tour: Suitcase Stories

In the exhibition Suitcase Labyrinth, you find your way among two thousand suitcases while listening to the stories of their former owners through an audio tour. Each suitcase tells a unique story and marks an important moment or major change in someone’s life. With the audio tour, you can hear the memories these suitcases carry.

Stories for children

For children aged 9 and up, there is a special audio tour. A selection of suitcase stories is presented in a playful way, allowing them to discover the remarkable stories of the donors.

The audio tours are included with your ticket and can be collected at the entrance to the Suitcase Labyrinth.
